Greeting Friends,

School is officially back in session and college campuses all around America are influencing the minds and cultures of millions of students. Young people are experiencing all kinds of feelings ranging from fear, to excitement, to one of complete helplessness. These are the years that will help determine what one thinks about love, truth, relationships, God, etc. It is this time in their lives that they go from less emotional thinking to making judgments based more on rational and logical arguments. When they were younger they were told they could be anyone and do anything if they just put their mind to it. Now, reality is setting in and their view of life is becoming one that is filled with both disappointments and possibilities. The transitions are endless.

It almost seems as if more research has been done determining the amount of HS students leaving the faith after 4 years of college, then research done on the economy. This a crucial time for Young Adult Ministry and one that leaders need to take advantage of. I encourage you to be actively involved on a college campus near you. Students need to know that there are churches, ministries, and people who care about them and are willing to assist them in their spiritual journey. This is a difficult transition for both college students and ministers, however, I want to direct you to a few links to help assist you in your efforts.

One ministry that understands the importance of ministry to college students is the Move The Nations Convention. Move the Nations exists to move young adults and young adult ministries to accept their prophetic appointments through the medium of their local church to MOVE first in Jerusalem, then in Judea, and on to the nations. It also exists to bring together like-minded young adult ministries for kingdom collaboration.I recently had the privilege of meeting Danny Morales, the visionary behind this ministry. I asked him to recap their latest conference.

Move the Nations was held at Monterey Bay Christian Center on August 21-22. The convention was third in the series and first ever to be livestreamed. MTN 09 featured guest speaker Roger Ovalle, worship pastor Maribel Barajas, altar minister Mary Louise Vigil, Dwight Davis from SUM Oakland, Dan Mooney from Bethany University, Caitlin and Cole Zick from Sacramento Masters, Glen Davis from Chi Alpha, YA Pastor Melinda Andrade, Christian Comedian Dennis Gaxiola, and Ryan Moore from the National Office. “The Young Adult Commission for a Postmodern 2.0 World” panel was also hosted and covered the topics: millennial trends, theology and controversy, gay marriage, effective YA ministry, bridging YA ministries, making room at the leadership table for women and minority ministers, social justice, and social networking tools for YA ministry. Their next conference is slated for July of 2010 in Hawaii. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always felt led from Holy Spirit to go to Hawaii for some ministry. I hope to see you there.
